A Unity játékmotor egy nagyon sokak által használt játékkészítési platform. Nagy cégek tucatja támaszkodik ma erre az eredetileg kicsi játékként induló programra. Igen jól olvastad eredetileg egy GooBall nevű játékként indult el a Unity motor fejlesztése. Ez a játék nagyon csúnyán elbukott de a kis fejlesztőcsapat nagy potenciált látott a játék alapjául szolgáló Akkor még nagyon alap szintű motorban. „Demokratizálni” akarták a játékkészítést és egy olyan programot akartak létrehozni amiben egyaránt lehet 2D-s és 3D-s játékot is készíteni. Igy született meg a ma Unity-ként ismert  program ami akkoriban Mac ekszklúzív volt.

A Unity Mac- ekszklúzív?

Igen csak az apple számítógépein lehetett elérni a programot. És csak apple gépekre lehetett fejleszteni vele egészen 2009 ig. Itt is szerezték a népszűségét a programnak. Ők voltak az elsők akik támogatták az Iphone-ra való fejlesztést 2007-ben.

Miért volt a unity Mac exklúzív?

Egyszerűen abban az időben az apple gépei örvendtek nagyon nagy népszerűségnek és ezek voltak a legfejlettebbek mind közül. Bár nem tudjuk a valós választ erre lehet gondolni. Ahogy nőtt a Windows népszerűsége egyre inkább belátta a Unity hogy kell egy pc-s verzió. Ez el is készült kb 2009 re ezzel még nagyobb népszerűséget szerezve a játékmotornak.

Más Játékmotorok közé tartozik a az Unreal Engine ami egy jóval öregebb egészen a 90-es évekig visszanyúló motor de ez senkit ne tévesszen meg az Unreal Engine 4 az egyik leg modernebb motor a piacon jelenleg. Ezen kívül a Godot egy viszonylag ujj „Open Source ” program ami annyit tesz hogy bárki kedvére testre szabhatja a programot a legmélyebb szintig. Emiatt nagyon sokan szeretik ezt a motort. Minden Motornak megvan ez előnye és a hátránya is ez alapján kell eldönteni hogy ki mit használjon.
